One Year!

It was Boston's Beyond Bonkers Birthday Bash at the Rubert house last Saturday. It was so intense it took three days for me to recuperate enough to post the event! So I'll cut the yakkin' and get crack-a-lackin'... or whatever the kids are saying these days..

Boston started off wearing his sharp sweater and polo he got from Grandma and Grandad Lee... and boy did he impress! Here he is starting things off right: with a little bit of ham... and some meat.

After some sandwiches that Kjerstin professionally made we got right into the gifts, posted in as close to the order in which they were opened.

Here's a great big bag of great big legos from Great Big Grandpa Mac.

Uncle Kaden found this surprisingly fascinating old-school mower at Ikea. Those innovative Swedes!

This was a big highlight... Boston's own tools! He's gotten tired of borrowing mine to fix all the things around the house that I break... coincidentally trying to fix them. Grandma Kim and his aunts Haily and Darci thought this was a great idea for our manly little man and when they saw the helmet they knew that it was a done deal.

That's not your imagination, the newest foreman of the Rubert house has his name AND his position right on his helmet.

In hopes of instilling a little bit of musical talent in the handyman we got Boston a xylophone.

Aunt Meagan and Uncle Dolphe got Boston this awesome train set... I'm enjoying this as much as Boston is, although I appreciate watching it go around the track on its own and Boston likes to watch it go right into his mouth.

We gave Boston a mower, too. I swear we're not trying to indoctrinate him into loving to do yard work.

The Rubert and Jones grandparents both gave Boston his own little library, which I really thought was cool, and not just so he'll stop chewing on my books.

They're all perfect for Boston... which means they're nice and thick for chewing. There are some really, really good books, though, and Boston already enjoys having his mommy read to him.

Finally, Boston found the wagon full of legos from Grandpa Mac. He's ready now for some serious man business around the house.

Then on to the cake!

The fire didn't so much scare him as entice him...

He tried to grab it!
Mom rescued him, though.

Boston was a little hesitant at first, expecting someone to stop him.

Now the com-mess-ment!

We are all very proud of the little guy. He had so much fun and that was fun for everyone else. We really missed those that couldn't be there, but there will be many, many more birthdays to share with Boston.
As a bonus, here's Boston all shnazzed up for church on his first official day as a one year old. If it looks like he has a little swagger in his step it's because he somehow got a hold of a little ego on his birthday. Of course, look at his gorgeous mother... he was genetically doomed to superstar looks.

Miss us?

Well the quota for gentle reminders to post has been met... and surpassed... so, congratulations Bostoniacs, here's another mesmerizing display of talent and charm. In my defense, however, there haven't been any events drastic enough to pull me up out of my mire of full-time-job-full-time-family-man-part-time-school-sometime-snoozer, but here's what I like to call a Barrage of Boston.

A week ago we had some computer problems, and Boston wanted to help me. And by "wanted to help" I, of course mean, "saw a ginormous rat's nest of wires upon which to feast".

Boston sometimes feels like a caged animal. He tuckered himself out during a harrowing escape... a very adorable, harrowing escape.

Boston is almost just as big as George. They've gotten into this "matching outfits" phase. Those crazy kids.

This is Boston's "gets-the-ladies" outfit. This is also Boston's "gets-the-ladies" pose. This is just Boston gettin' the ladies.

We found this awesome hat for the little guy... as you can see this is the only time it stays on his head for longer than the time it takes his hand to reach his head.

Boston is finally showing an interest in books besides being a part of a well-balanced diet. Kjerstin reads to him all the time, and the "Monkeys on the Bed" book is one of his favorites.

This is one of those rare moments when I can tell Boston to smile and he doesn't blow me off for... well anything else. He just loves his mommy.

Boston and I were waiting while Kjerstin ran into the store. I was frantically trying to find something to entertain the exasperated young man, but Boston got bored and fell asleep... mid-graham cracker.

There are many techniques out there for getting your infantoddler ready for bed... this is mine. I think it gives him good dreams... of being eaten.

Now, hopefully I won't let another month go by without posting, but I'm pretty lazy and have a problem with commitment... so... we'll see how things go.

One day, I just felt like walkin'...

That's right folks, he walks! We've been saying for weeks that he was going to walk any minute, but I'm not used to being right. This must be the elation that Kjerstin feels all the time. But enough chit chat... watch the little man walk like he's been doing it for ages.

Don't feel bad if you laughed when he cratered at the end... I do every time.

Of course, we were all excited at the start of this week to show you this video...

But then Friday rolled around and he just decided he didn't need the toy... just like that.

So now the rest of this post will be just as anticlimactic.

Boston has been enjoying having free reign of his room. Kjerstin poked her head in to check on him and, what was he doing? Reading. What a good boy!

We also had Boston's first Easter and the boy made out like a bandit. He really, really enjoyed the Muppets DVD... case.

No, it's not you're imagination, that is a DeLorean that Boston is ruining his appetite with. We tried to warn Doc and Marty but they didn't take into account Boston being faster than 88 mph.

And for a final treat... here's Boston's first swing.

Busy Boy

A whole month? Boston's disappointed in me, too. This post we have a few random pictures to share so I hope you enjoy them.

We saw this awesome little chair at Target and it was just Boston's size. It was on sale but it was still too steep to justify since he doesn't sit still long enough to enjoy it... I'm actually a little surprised I got this picture taken.

Boston has learned what the flash means on Kjerstin's camera phone... it's his cue to flip the charming-super-cheesy-smile switch.

This little slice of cheese was while he was "reading" his giant Corduroy book that Grandma Kim got for him.

Boston just loves Corduroy... it really is a solid foundation for him.

Here's a fun new activity that Boston has discovered... I don't know what his obsession is with appliances but, hey, at least he's obsessed with things that clean. I'm hoping that sticks.

I was nervous to put this one on here because it's so cute, but at the same time Boston looks kind of menacing. It looks like he's giving me a talking-to.

Boston has become a fan of hide-and-seek. He's also been waving bye-bye. Here he is being found and bidding you adieu.

So much to do... so much... time...

Well, go ahead and yell at me... I deserve it. It's been far too long since the last post. I'll just get straight to the pictures and not waste any more precious time babbling.

First and most important: we got to visit Grandma Kim again. We met up with Grandma Kim and Aunt Darci in Salt Lake and had a ball. Boston absolutely loves his beautiful girls.

Boston adores his grandma...

And he loves his Darci, too.

Other than that the action has been as constant as it has been muted. Boston DID discover the clothes dryer and I'm pretty sure he'd stay in there forever if we let him.

We'll have more to post soon, but I wanted to catch up a bit... so, now we're two weeks behind, instead of three. But Boston is politely asking you to forgive his dear old dad... and he's asking with this face:

The Boss is Mobile!

It was mere days ago that our little treasure was handsome wherever we happened to put him. But now he's decided he's gonna be handsome wherever he darn well pleases. And so none of you skeptics out there can say that we just posed the munchkin and snapped a photo I am giving you, not one, not two, but three videos as proof.

We made it hard for him, of course, with the wood floors, but here he is shortly after finally crawling going after... pills. We're trying to not read into it.

The carpet seemed to be easier, but we Ruberts are not ones to take the easy road, so...

...Boston went ahead and mastered those wood floors until they cried, "Uncle"!

And to answer the inevitable question, yes he's into everything already, but I am positive about it because his curiosity is unquenchable and I couldn't ask for many things more beneficial to him... that and he's one step closer to being my go-to guy. "Boston, please bring me a/the/some (whatever my sly little heart desires)."

Oh What Fun!

Well it's been an exciting couple of weeks for Boston and his crew. The most exciting thing that happened was finally being able to meet his Aunt Haily, and boy did they have fun!

This is right after Boston met Haily, which was right after Haily got home from a long day of snowmobiling.

Haily was visiting with her "buddy", Chris, who is a kick in the pants.

Everyone had a good time.

Haily is very fond of Boston...

...and Boston waited until Chris left the room to show Haily how he felt. What a schmoozer!

We thought it would be best to get some pictures of Boston in the snow since it's his first winter. This rad snowsuit (which doesn't come in Dad sizes... I checked) was from Grandma Jones, and it is cooooozy.

Of course Boston wanted to try sledding and all we had was a storage tub. But he insisted, and of course George called shotgun.

After that we tried snow angels... I think it's obvious how well that went over.

And, finally, we discovered how much Boston likes being eaten but not knowing who's doing it.
